Hi Brian,
you might want to try Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Just came out and seems to be pretty decent. I'm running it on Windows XP Home w/SP3 as well as on Vista Home Premium w/SP2 and it's running smoothly on both systems.
Suggest you try it out, really not bad for an MS product. If you don't like it you can always uninstall. You may also want to try out Avira or AVG.

I have been using "avast!" free home edition for several years, and find it to be very satisfactory. The only time it has let me down is when I was at fault.
It updates itself and has many running providers even though it is free for home use. Very Happy
