I am not sure what to do to get rid of ewido from my computer. I am running XP Pro, SP2 and installed ewido long before AVG 8.0 was released. I upgraded from the free version of AVG 7.5 in June 2007 to a 2 year subscription.
When 8.0 came out I downloaded the new version but I kept getting installation errors [not concerning ewido] so I just kept using AVG. I only decided to try to fix the problem when I realized that suddenly my daily system scan was scanning but not doing anything. Previously it came back with several items needing to be removed [cookies from ebay and other sites I watch daily]. I know what it was not removing every day as I always looked at the report.
I have piddled with this so long I cannot even remember how I got to where I am except to say that the newer version of AVG requires the removal of ewido before it can be installed. It was not in my add/remove programs and when I tried to remove it manually there was no uninstall program.
By now whoever is reading this realizes my expertise is nil if I do not have a step-by-step list to do something. I used the FAQ at the AVG homepage but their instructions for removing ewido did not work for my computer. I have sent them 3 requests for assistance and get back a canned message that in essence says they are too busy right now to tell me what to do.
The last message I asked if I could upgrade to the new 8.5 version and just apply the remaining year of my paid 7.5 version to the new one [they only offer the 8.0 as an upgrade to the paid 7.5] but even the chance of more money did not tempt them to answer.
The bottom line -- I need to get ewido off my computer and do not know how to do it; I am sure there is some way but I do not know what it is.
If the AVG people are reading this I am seriously torqued about this--their software is excellent but the support is deficient to say the least.
Every time I go online I am nervous wondering what I may be encountering. I have a firewall and my DSL modem but it still makes me nervous just having what little I now have with my AVG.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
