Norton vs McAfee?

I'm guessing that by now most major AV software brands are about as good as
the other. I'm guessing they all come with 1 year free online updates?

This week I saw McAfee on sale for almost nothing, so unless someone has a
major reason not to use it, I think I will wander down to the store and grab
one. (I had Norton previously and liked it, but I'm not that loyal.)

Stay away from both retail versions, they really can play havoc with your
pc. Uninstall previous apps by using their uninstall-tool available from
their web-site respectively.

I would not run either one
avast or avg free versions can do the job

or do what I do, don't run an antivirus at all and stay off the xxxx sites
etc.

I don't know if you're still monitoring this thread or not, but I just found it so here goes my opinion on your question about "Norton vs McAfee".

Years ago, both were good programs, but in the many years since they appeared on the computer scene, they have become bloated, invasive and expensive. In many cases both have caused the user many problems when they fail to protect the PC from viruses, etc.

So why waste your good hard-earned money on something that will not only slow down your computer, but fail to do the job you're paying for it to do.

I regularly find tons of viruses, trojans and spyware on my customers computers running either Norton or McAfee. I wind up having to delete Norton or McAfee and install AVG to get the PC cleaned up. I repeat this process several times a week in my computer repair business.

To repeat something I've said thousands of times at least, "The worlds very best computer security software is 100% FREE".

Here's my recommended list of FREE or trial software that I use and share with my hundreds of customers.

ANTI-VIRUS PROTECTION:

World famous AVG FREE will keep your computer free of viruses,
trojans, dialers, etc.
By default, it updates and scans for viruses on a daily basis.

That takes you to the next page where you can select:

Immediately get updates. More than one may be required.

I personally did the same thing a while ago: uninstalled Norton and McAfee, both just take too much processor usage, are invasive, and keep giving you annoying messages when they run out.

Darn it, The Shadow beat me to it. The proper answer is D - None of the above. Use AVG, Spybot S&D and AdAware 2007. None of the high priced solutions work better, only more expensively.
