Lately I've experienced some problems with AVG Free Antivirus(latest
version 7.5xxx).
First about a week ago each automatic daily dat update required a reboot
( I've since figured that one out two seting had been changed, this
change wasn't done by my had I know),
Second problem was a number of old files started to get labled as virus,
trojan and what have you, These files were various programs that had
resided in a folder that had been scanned numerous times before with no
problems ...some files were two to three years old.
Most were deleted or sent to the vault by AVG.
I have suspected that AVG was giving false positives but wasn't sure.
Today during the scan AdbeRdr70_DLM_enu_full.exe gave a warning it
contained Trojon horse SHEUR CKV.
This was a direct download from Adobe so I don't think it is a problem.
Anyone else experienced this with AVG free in the last little while.
Yeah I know go ask over on AVG Free forum, thought I'd ask here first and
maybe experience less of a hassle about where I posted my query.(G)
TIA

Yup, I have the game Sacred on the PC and AVG has picked it up, quote:
Sacred.exe is a trojan virus.
AVG then deleted the file and the game needs to be reinstalled.

Did you report it to Grisoft?
They can't fix it if they don't know about it.

When was the last time you reported a problem to Grisoft concerning their
"FREE" virusScan program and got an answer or solution in a quick timely
fashion, Usually you are referred to the "FREE" forum which in it's self
is another story?

Does the free version not allow you to alter the test settings?,not to
"automatically heal"?and allow you a choice of what to do with the
suspect file?.Any av that automatically heals/deletes a file may cause
problems and that setting should be avoided.A deleted file can usually be
restored from the vault.

I had some problems with AVG and am now trying Avast free AV. About a week
and so far it works perfectly and I have had no problems.

I've been using Avast since May with no complaints. Been thinking of
trying Avira.

I experienced your first problem too. I reset the update manager and all
is well now......no clue what made it change. On my wife's laptop, she
experienced no changes...strange. |

Got up this morning after normal update time of AVG program and it was no longer there. Actually it was, but avgamsvr.exe was gone. Tried to re-install, but get error message that avgamsvr failed to install.
Cannot label any file avgamsrv.exe without it disappearing immediately.
Tried to re-install after uninstalling with same results.
Two other programs are missing their executables - partition magic and active cam. I cannot create those executables without them disappearing. |

I've used AVG for about 5 yrs now without any problem. Until 6 weeks ago when it "found" some files that needed deleting, unsuspectingly I said delete. (That's what anti virus is for afterall!) However there was a problem, one of the files it deleted was my internet connection. So now there is no internet connection for more than the first 5 minutes after I switch the computer on. Strangely it still reads my non-hotmail emails, and msn works fine.
I think it will need a complete reinstall of windows, but am hoping there is a less drastic solution. |

Mr friend recently downloaded AVG8 Free for her computer a couple days ago.
I just spent roughly 3 or 4 hours on my friend's laptop trying to reboot, and had to basically had to reinstall the system, after they were unable to start their computer without getting the blue screen of death five seconds later. Once we finally patched up the "corrupted data" on the computer and got the system to load and run, we attempted to uninstall the program.
It said it had uninstalled successfully, and needed to restart the computer, but when the computer restarted and I checked the Task Manager, it was still running in the background, and there was still a little functional icon in the System Tray, not to mention AVG files still on the computer when I did a Search for it in the system.
Whenever I try to End the Process in the Task Manager, it tells me "Access is Denied", and I cannot manually delete several of what seems to be the essential files that keep it running while the program's still running. So it's a vicious little circle I can't stop.
Many of the undelete-able files are .dll files, I think. Start up editor? Registry cleaner?
Any suggestions? |

I really hate it. I removed AVG from my PC as it didn't remove viruses. The most irritating part is, after uninstalling AVG when I tried installing a new anti-virus application, it detected AVG and couldn't be installed stating AVG is installed on system. I re-installed AVG and removed it again but still the same. What to do? i don't wanna use AVG and I'm not able to install other anti-virus, leaving my PC to be a welcoming place for viruses.
Plz if i can get some solution to it
