My Norton firewall event log catches the following information and I have no
idea what it all means. The log shows a little box with a flame with the
following information.

"Unused port blocking has blocked communications. Details: Inbound TCP
connection remote addresses, local service is:

These are some of the numbers I removed:
61.101.18.181
68.49.45.188
68.49.45.110
68.49.19.151
193.159.185.99
24.164.2.86
66.214.54.220
68.49.145.21

On the first two numbers above I got a web page. One in Korea and another
in Germany (I think, then China).

Does Dosi & Saram Corp, WWW.eastwest.com, Citrix mean anything.

Help understanding this appreciated.

Just means your firewall is working and blocking access to your computer
from those IP addresses.

Thank you, I guess my real question is why do they have the right to modify
my computer? Is this common? Who the hell are they? How do I know if they
are legit?

Again, thank you for responding.

They don't, exactly. They're not, at the stage your firewall intercepts
them, trying to "modify your computer" - they're just attempting to
establish a connection. Just like a webserver does when you ask it for a
webpage, or your mailserver does when you ask it for your mail, etc.

Some machines on the internet are servers, and have various ports open
for clients to connect to, and these people are checking those ports on
your machine to see if it's a server. Since it;s not, your firewall is
correctly not allowing the connection.

Is this common?

Very. Most people who are online 24*7 and not hidden behind some
external firewall will find their onboard forewall reporting connection
attempts at least 10 times a day.

> are legit?

Mostly they're people looking for machines they can use to relay mail
anonymously, hackers looking for anything they might want to break into,
or viruses looking for machines to infect.

Dave, Thanks. You explained it very well. Guess I will renew my Norton
subscription when it comes due again. To bad I can't program my machine to
send back a message that says "screw u" or something more impolite.

Not really very well, but close enough for jazz, as they say.
