I have the virus everyone has been talking about that reroutes google searches. I've done tons of research trying to figure out how to get rid of it using various spyware programs. My big problem is that none of those programs will run on my computer.
I've had AVG for a long time, and now it won't scan my computer anymore. I tried downloading spybot, hijackthis and a couple others and the install fails. I also downloaded malwarebytes anti-malware but it shuts down about 4 seconds into a scan and then the program won't open anymore.
Another problem (and I don't know if this is related...) is my hotmail won't let me write emails anymore and I can't see my facebook account anymore... grrr!
What is going on?!?! How can I fix this?!?! Any help is appreciated. |

| I have the same issue. McAfee, HijackThis, Malware, etc. will not run. I can get them to start but not finish; not even in safe mode. I did have success with Spyware Doctor. Spyware Doctor fines several trojans; Generic.Trojan, Trojan.ByteVerify, and others. It has removed all but the Generic.Trojan which continues to come back. McAfee will load and protect but will not actively scan. Scan will start the first time but quite after 20 seconds. If anyone has help on how to get rid of this please assist. This is only affecting the google search from either the add-on for Firefox or from the IGoogle search interface. I have no issue from google.com.

Like 4cjchap, I've also downloaded spyware doctor. So far, it's the only program that can complete a full scan. Every time it scans, it finds several infections, including some trojans. After the scan, it removes all threats (or so it says...). However, the next time it scans it finds more issues, including some of the same trojans.
I've been working with maksimog on another topic trying to get rid of this problem, but so far we haven't had much luck.
This is soooo frustrating! 4cjchap, if you figure out how to solve this issue please let me know! |

| starlightstef. After numerous trials and erros I have used ComboFix to find and remove the issues I was having. After I ran SpyBot Search and Destroy. Please read up on both before using. ComboFix got ride of the go.google virus and SpyBot found additional trojans that needed to be removed. This took care of my issue with the search engine hijacks. I have yet to see if my antivirus, McAfee will now scan/work. I'll tackle that tomorrow. Good luck! |
