| Does anyone happen to know how to turn off that annoying warning the
McAfee anti-virus program sends up saying the computer must be
restarted after an update. It's the most repetitive and annoying of
anything I've ever seen.
Thanks

Yes, you restart the computer.

Hi Todd,
Some McAfee Updates require a reboot. Other McAfee updates do not. What
is your operating system and version?

I'm using McAfee Security Center 7 in XP. Maybe you could also tell me
why it keeps installing updates after I disabled that feature.
Frankly, it's the most obtrusive program I've ever seen, and I'm
starting to wish I never installed it.

Hi Todd,
Right-click the McAfee M Icon and click on Open Security Center. On the
bottom of the right window, click on Configure. Where is talks about
Updates, click on it. Now click on Advanced. Dot "Disable automatic updating
and let me manually check for updates". Click Apply then OK. Now close the
Security Center.
You just probably clicked No time after time, instead of going into
Advanced!

I had Norton since my first computer in 2000 and didn't have any problems
with it and then a few months ago, Comcast started offering McAfee free to
it's subscribers so I figured I might as well take advantage of their offer
(after what I pay them for my cable television and the internet I figured
they owed me something).... However, I found McAfee to be totally
disruptive. Constant questioning, "allow or do not allow whatever" when I
was using the computer was more than I could handle and I finally made a
wrong choice, and through my ignorance messed up my PC and had to reformat
my computer. So, having said the above, I find Norton to be so much
simpler... it does its job without interrupting me every five minutes and I
have chosen to use the Firewall that came with my Windows XP rather than the
firewall included in Norton AV.... so your use of the word obtrusive for
McAfee couldn't be any more accurate..... it sure is.... At least I found it
to be also.

The Correct answer to this is you have a virus file called Rootkit-Gen . Yes I had same identical problem with this computer. Mcafees up to date all working fine and then the stuff about the pop up reinstall etc.
The CURE was to download and install AVAST anitvirus program and run it. AVAST found and cured the file. perhaps you could do it yourself. File resides
in a folder called C:\Windows\BBXBY.vjb
So now I will have to decide whether to stay with AVAST of go back and reinstall the Mcafees stuff as yes I took it all out in an attempt to make this problem go away.
