AVG 8.0 and ZoneAlarm = Vista crash

After installing AVG 8.0 on a new laptop with Vista Business all was well, as expected.

The first time I opened Thunderbird, Zonealarm asked if I wanted to allow the E-Mail Scanner avgemc.exe to access the internet. Of course I said Allow and was greeted by a Blue Screen. This happens every time.

Any ideas what is going on here?

2nd part: why would AVG try to access an IP belonging to BitGravity.com, a video hoster?

AVG 8.0 has a link scanner. So it's scanning all the links in your browser. You have to uncheck that portion when you install, if you don't want it. I believe it shows up as a toolbar add-on and should be able to disable it.

Thanks for the pointer, I'll check it out.

I don't recall ever having been on their pages. I have no reason to.

Anyone with an idea why it would crash when allowing an update to the e-mail scanner if not using Outlook???????

If you read my other post, AVG, Problems Galore, you will see there are a multitude of problems with v 8.0. AVG does have it's own forum is you want try that. If you get a resolution, do let us know.
