I hope there's a simple solution for this -- when I Print to PDF in
Publisher, if I go into my advanced print settings and choose CMYK, nothing
happens when I try to print. I can make a PDF by changing the color setting
to RGB, but then I have an RGB PDF file, which I don't want. I've had the
same trouble when I try to save as a postscript file.

In short, what is the best way to make a CMYK PDF file for commercial
printing?

Have you updated your Publisher 2003 installation with the latest service
pack? There is a fix for this in this download.

look into your distiller settings. most such problems start there.

Hello,

I have read all the fixes that SP1 and SP2 fixes in publisher. It seems that
this problem is fixed by SP1. I have publisher 2003 SP1 and I cannot get a
pdf file out of a CMYK pub file. Why is this happening? I get an generic
error message "failed to print". What can I do to get the file I want.

I can get a RGB pdf but i need a CMYK one. Please help.

Steven.

When you print to the Adobe printer, open properties, Adobe PDF Settings tab, edit
the Default settings, color folder.

I am having the same problem. Can someone be more specific. I have SP1 and
have followed Mary's suggestions, but still to no avail.

I was able to print a CMYK PDF file from Publisher 2003 SP1 only one time.
After that, with no changes to Distiller or Publisher, it says it is
printing, but never prompts for a file name or to replace the file name on
new or existing files.

I have just installed SP 2, but this does not help. Installed both
applications on a new computer on the network and was able to print a CMYK
pdf for the documents I needed to yesterday, but can not repeat the process
today. None of the settings has been changed. All the other MS applications
print PDF OK as expected.

I have monitored the print buffer window and see the file transfer to the
distiller like a normal printer. After it is there, it starts deleting. The
output Options for distiller 5.0 are Ask for PDF file destination checked (as
is Ask to Replace existing PDF) and View PDF when using Distiller checked.

I have tried to print a "normal" PDF using the default RGB settings as well.
Nothing.
