I am creating workflows and would like to click on major processes which will
take me to an expanded detailed sup-process and visa versa. What technique is
best in visio to achive this?

Easiest method is to add a hyperlink to the shape. Select the shape, then
either cntl-K or go to menu bar > Insert > Hyperlinks. I think the Visio
Help discussion is pretty good on this.
