I am using Publishing 2007 to create a newsletter. My commercial printer uses
a pdf file with I created with Publisher. In the Color Printing dialogue
window, spot-printing is selected. In the Publication Registration Settings
dialogue box, the Overprinting Settings include overprinting of text under
24pt, with "Lines" and "Imported Pictures" both checked (but "Fills" is not
checked). However, contrary to what I expected, based on my Overprinting
Settings, the printer found that a knockout was used instead for (a) text in
a spot-colored text box, and (b) text over an spot-colored imported picture.
All of this text was 11 pt or smaller. Can you advise me?

I think that this setting only applies to black objects. It may be that the
overprint was set but not set properly. It could be that the overprint was
stripped, it could be the wrong overprint mode. The colors when converted
could be losing their overprint status and mode. It could be a multitude of
things. You can try sending me the PDF, I can take a quick look at it.
