I need to put an outline map of France on my site. Can't find any on the web
that I like, so I need to creat one myself. The requirements are:
- Outline of France
- Showing each of the major regions of France in a different color
- Each of the regions has a hyperlink to a page on my site
What is the best way to do this? I would guess that I need to creat a gif
file showing France and its regions, color in the regions, then use
FrontPage's hotspots to make the regions clickable. Is there a better way?
Is there some simple and cheap SW to creat the GIF (even if it is just free
for a trial period)? I've never done this before, so simple would be nice.
Also, if I have to draw each region on the GIF and then outline each region
using HOTSPOTS, I'm doing the same work twice. Is there some way to do it
only once?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Paint.NET is free and has many features like PhotoShop. Both PhotoShop and
the JASC product have trials. You can even import a map in MSPaint and color
regions, if you can find a black and white map.

For example: search for "france map outline" came up with several,
including:

Gregory: Thank you very much. MSPaint did exactly what I wanted. I'm now
trying to add hyperlinks and having a bit of an issues (just posted another
question), but your response provided a perfect and elegant solution.
Dan and Tom: Thanks for the pointers to the existing maps. Have looked at
all of these, but as the map is pretty central to my site it needs to be
exactly what I need. Each of the maps I've found (having looked at about 200
sites) have problems (e.g. have to add pointers back to owner, map has too
much surrounding information, etc.). However, appreciate the suggestions.
Very best regards,
Doug Stewart |
