Morning,

The company i work for currently use a version management tool called PVCs, i have been given the task of looking into using VSS but i have no clue how it works and what i should do.

I was going to setup a virtual environment for testing first but i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction from the basic install to testing etc.

the way we want it setting up is a server to host the files (we currently have a large collect of visual studio and delphi related info for projects on a nas device) with a sql backend and clients want to be able to connect to it.

also is 2005 the latest version? from the browsing i have done i havent found a 2008 version but there seems to be alot of talk about Visual Studio Team System. is this a new name for VSS?

kind regards

Matt

p.s. please note that lamen terms would be best! Smile

VSS is a a file-level version control system that permits many types of organizations to work on several project versions at the same time. For information on how to get started with VSS, you may refer to the following link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181048(VS.80).aspx

The latest version of VSS is version 2005.

Visual Studio Team System 2008 is an integrated Application Life-cycle Management (ALM) solution which can help everyone on the team improve their skills and work more effectively together. It is a differnt product from VSS.

Thanks.
