My server is running VSS 6.0d. If I want to upgrade it to VSS 2005, do I
need to uninstall VSS 6.0d first? If I uninstall, would I lose all the
existing data?

I have been using the 2005 client with a 6.0 database (everyone else still
using 6.0) and it seems to work just fine. It's a little faster on VPN
which is nice too. Still not what I'd call fast though.

Did you uninstall VSS 6.0 before installing VSS 2005?

No, but the database is on another server. Seems to work OK. I've been
using for around 3 weeks.

Is VSS 2005 still a file based database then?

Cheers, Rob.

Rob:

Yes, it is still file based. The database format is VSS2005 is the same
as VSS 6.0d.

Upgrading the clients to 2005 is fine. However, I recommend you upgrade VSS to VSS 2005 to avoid some minor changes.
