Shape text and text run

I have a shape containing multiple line of text. I want to allow the user to input a line number and change the color of the text on that line.

Anyone has an idea of how to approach this problem? I know i have to change the character at which the text run begins and ends, but how do i find the character index of the various carriage return and then decide which character indexes to use?
