For my professional occupation, I got the assignment to outline a conversion
solution of Micrografix Flowcharter 2000 documents to Visio 2002 format.
The large institution that I work for has currently about 9000 micrografix
drawings of all different kinds: Cross Functional Flowcharts, General
Drawings, Organization charts etc.
When browsing the internet, I found several solutions to convert the
Micrografx Flowcharter 2000 (.igx) files towards Visio 2002, but not without
I think commercially, it would be a good idea for Microsoft to design a
Micrografx Flowcharter 2000 conversion tool towards Visio 2002 format, since
one does not exist, and I know at least 5 LARGE companies, who would be VERY
interested in a waterproof conversion method!
Beside that, I have found the following solutions to the conversion problem,
(which are not waterproof and very time-consuming):
1. In MGF2000, convert the .IGX file to a .FLO file (this is the Flowcharter
7.0 format). With MG Flowchater 7.0, read the new file, and then convert to
..AF3. Visio has ONLY and .AF3 file converter, which I can only use to convert
the Flowcharter files.
Flaws: Several, but the most important one is that the BANDS of the cross
functional flowcharts are not saved when convering .IGX to .FLO, resulting in
quite a severe loss of information.
2. There exists a tool that you can download from ww.microsoft.com, which is
called: "Flowcharter 7.0 to Visio 2000 converter...." This tool works simply
very bad, and was initially developed by some obscure German company which
has provided the conversion tool to Microsoft.
Flaws: No correct conversion of the page, lines are converted "straight",
while in the original document the lines where segmented... etc.... etc....
So, too much to explain in one mail.
CAN SOMEONE FIND ME A WORKING conversion tool, method?
