I have an upgrade version of Visio 5 which I had used in
an Windows 98 SE environment. When I upgraded to Windows
XP Home I did not install Visio as I did not have an
immediate need.
I see from another post that it is possible to install
Visio 5 in an XP environment. I have tried to do this
installation, but the installation program will not
accept the product key from Visio 4.0. I never had this
problem before.
Microsoft no longer supports Visio 5. I've also checked
re upgrading and find that I would have to purchase the
full product since an upgrade is not available. I need
this product for one project that I'm doing right now and
would prefer not to have to buy the latest and greatest
if Visio 5 will work on my computer. I'm using an AMD XP
processor at 1.2 GHz.
Can anyone provide help? |

I am using the standard version. Version 4 is a full
version rather than an upgrade (all on floppy disks). The
serial number I had written down is 117-775-061754. This
number is not being accepted when I enter it using the
upgrade to Visio 5 Standard (on CD). The serial number
for version 5 is 119-502-010041.
Thank you so much for responding. I had given up all hope
of receiving a reply and looked at the newsgroup not
expecting to hear anything.
However, I now look forward to hearing from you.

I am having the same exact problem but am relatively sure
we can enable 5.0 to work with XP. How do we obtain the
answers to this?
Thanks!

I found this site googling but haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.
I recently got a new pc at work. The visio on my desktop brings up visio 4.0, but when I look in the program list in control panel it shows Visio 2000 with a "change" button because its install is incomplete.
When I try to install the 2000 upgrade it asks for a product key - I have that and entered it, then immediately I get an error saying the older version to be upgraded is not found and asks for a serial number from the old one.
I don't have a serial number for 4.0.
(I can see my visio files when I try to open them using the desktop icon, but I can't open them because it says they are newer than that version - meaning I must have created them using 2000 on my previous pc.)
It has been recommended to me that I delete and reinstall - but not sure how to do that since the 4.0 version doesn't show up in the program list and the 2000 version is showing a "change" in the program list.
1000 thanks to anyone that could help me sort this out. |

Found solution for my thing - just posting here if anyone else has the same scenario to work out.
I had to install a full blown version of 2000 (which I didn't know we even had).
No idea why I had the upgrade CD - it definitely does not work from 4.0.
Not sure why the 2000 version did not come over to new PC using the windows tool to move files and setting from old pc to new one. Will be checking the old one before it is wiped to make sure I have everything. |
