Archived from groups: microsoft>public>frontpage>addins (more info?)

For some reason, my 'Design time Controls' have disappeared.

Insert->Web Component->Advanced Controls->Design-Time Control

The "Insert Web Component" dialog box says "There are no design-time
controls installed". The page listing all of the controls won't show up, so
I can't manually add any.

I've repaired, uninstalled and reinstalled Front Page (2003) multiple times,
and even tried installing it in a location other than c:\program files.

The 'bots' directory currently has the FPCOUNT directory with a FPCount.inf
file in it. Still no Design-Time controls.

I believe this issue resulted from when I attempted to load some of the
design time controls from the Front Page SDK by following the SDK
instructions to copy the 'bots' directory. I have since removed all of
those.

I've also manually cleaned the registry, still no luck.

So ... how do I get back my Design-Time Controls?

What design-time controls did you originally have installed, and where did
you install them from?

I believe just the built in ones; installed from the Universal MSDN CD's
with a valid key. (on one machine, per the license agreement).

The BOTS directory has a single sub directory called FPCOUNT. However, it
doesn't show up.

There's a UI issue in that if you don't have ONE installed you can't install
others, as the button to install an add in is on the page that shows the
existing add ins. If I got to select a design time control, a message box
says "you don't have any" and offers an OK button.

I followed the instructions in the (really poor) FPSDK to simply copy the
sample BOTS directory into the BOTS directory in Front Page. That started
the trouble ... although I have to admit it might have been missing before.

I also tried a reinstall to a totally different directory; same results.
The BOTS directory does exist and is back to being vanilla:

6/18/2007 11:30 <DIR> FPCOUNT
6/18/2007 11:30 <DIR> ..
6/18/2007 11:30 <DIR> .

The default FP2003 installation (install everything to disc) does not
provide any design-time controls, and my bots folder is the same as
yours.
Fpcount is the FrontPage hit counter, added by Insert->Web
Component->Hit Counter

Not mine either. It's in the list under Advanced Controls, but it is grayed
out.

Weird.

And if it is, how do you add them?

I copied the contents of the 'bots' folder after building with the SDK but
they never showed up.

Basically, with this install it's impossible to add them!
