running outlook 2007. old computer had outlook 2003. easy transfer should
have transfered outlook connector. first message is no email program
associated. then a long message about the connector i think. then outlook
closed. started outlook again and it asked if i wanted safe mode, i said
yes and it hung again. then on the next attempt win7 said it would detect
and repair. now finally i am able to get outlook going. however, so far it
has downloaded 1101 old messages from sept 12 and older. this i don't
understand. i looked at some of the files i had put family message into and
there were messages up to 10/13/09. that will be a lot of messages to go
through and sort... charlie

finally the messages stopped arriving... and ll/05/09 messages are there so
at least i am current. i will try to figure out what happened. the
messages that were in the inbox now were saved in a pst file on another hard
drive other than the one outlook was on. at least i am retired now so have
lots of time to sort out the messages... charlie

1. easy transfer does not work well on outlook profiles. It's better to make
a new profile and associate the old pst with it.
2. you should reinstall the connector. it only takes a few min and
eliminates problems.
3. the file outlook uses to identify which messages were downloaded is
associated with the profile and a GUID. The GUID is machine specific. Moving
the pst to a new machine will redownload all messages stored on the server.
If the account is imap or connector, trying to use the old pst is pointless,
outlook will make a new pst.

help. kinda exciting to move from my 607mhz PIII to the latest version of
win7 and 3g processor... kinda fast and it doesn't take long to correct
things. charlie
