The answer is not going to change. Either you have not activated Word, or it
is a trial version that has expired.

I bought my Dell in 2005. I have had both Word and Excel since that time
running perfectly.
My computer crashed last year..took it to a repair shop where they backed up
my files but that was it..I got it back with no Excel and Word.

Found an old copy of a trial version of each and used it in desperation to
work on my files.
Now that has expired.
I used the product key that is labeled on my computer but because I had 2003
running, it won't recognize it.
How do I get my word and excel back?
Thanks

You must install the correct version of Word 2003 (probably Word 2003
standard OEM). If you installed a different version, the key will not work.
Very often, OEM Office is BIOS locked so you probably need the Dell
installation disk. Try Dell to see if they will sell you a replacement disk.

Did your PC come with a trial version and you then purchased the full
version? If so, did you uninstall the trial version prior to installing the
full version?

And as Doug suggests, have you activated it (Word Options, Resource tab)?

What has this got to do with accidentally hitting Ctrl+D? Please explain
what you mean.

If it is a trial version that has expired then "uninstalling and
reinstalling" (however you manage that) won't help, as you get only one
trial; now it is time to actually pay for the product. If it is a legitimate
retail version, then you just need to activate it. FWIW, Office 2010 will be
available in mid-June, and there may well be a free trial version of that as
well.

That probably means the trial has time expired and you need to purchase an
appropriate version of Word or Office. Whilst in Lock Down (Reduced
Functionality) mode, you can only read existing documents.
