Hi,
I recovered 2 PST files which had been deleted from the hard-drive(but
not over-written). One file was 57 Mb & the other was 32 Mb. After
running Scanpst & repairing, I was able to open the smaller file
successfully & retrieve its messages.
When I tried the larger file, Scanpst advised that "Folders found in
this file=2" & "Items found in this file=0". I went ahead & repaired
anyway but after opening the file in Outlook 2000, I now only have the
following two empty folders: Recovered Personal Folders & Deleted
Items. Looking at the log there are lots of mismatches - CRC, Sig,
PType & Bid plus other error messages.
Is there any other course of action to try to salvage something from
this PST file or should I just consider it a goner?
Thanks for any replies.

Try running Scandisk or another disk repair utility, then Scanpst on the original file again. Repeat the sequence 3-4 times. If that fails, there are file recovery services/utilities. Hi Mac,
You can try our product Advanced Outlook Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover messages and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files. It can also split the output PST file into several small ones if the original PST file is oversized.
Please visit http://www.datanumen.com/aor/index.htm for detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair.
And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe

The .pst file which you have recovered might be corrupt. Don’t jump into a conclusion that the emails are gone without testing the .pst files further. You can very well get back the email messages inside the .pst file by repairing the .pst file using a right tool.
You can use PST Repair Software to repair such corrupted .pst files.

Does anyone know of a free PST recovery tool? Rather not pay $70+ for one.

There is lots of free pst recovery software available in the net but it is so risky to use free tools because of virus attack. So i suggest you to buy a paid version of any good company as "stellar phoenix ", i suggest you that you first use the trial version of this software.
Cheers... |
