When I open an Excel file I get the following
message "Excel has caused an error in EXCEL.EXE. Excel
will now close. If you continue to experience problems
try to restarting your computer." The only option is to
click the "close" button on the message. I get an
hourglass when I attempt any other action. This only
occurs on one file. My other excel files function fine.
This error message started after computer "froze" while
file was open and computer was rebooted.
I have:
Rebooted
Updated all Microsoft ME and Microsoft Office 2000 patches
Updated Norton virus definitions.
Ran Scan-Disk
Ran Norton Virus Scan
Can anyone help? |

Wow. I am so glad someone is trying to help me! I see so
many unanswered problems. I am very grateful Jennifer.
Here is what happen when I tried your suggestion.
As soon as the 'bad' file is opened the (above) error
message appears. The cursor is an hourglass unless
directed over the error message box. I cannot select
anything except the "close" button located in the error
message box. I tried to use shortcut keys (alt H, R)
instead of cursor but I was not able to perform Detect and
Repair on the file in question. I did perform "Detect and
Repair" on other excel files just to see if it would fix
the 'bad one' but it did not.
This file is very important. Please reply with any helpful
suggestions.

Hi,
It seems that your excel file is damaged. Maybe you can try a popular Excel file recovery tool called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel file. It is a powerful tool to repair corrupt or damaged Excel files.
Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/
And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe
Hope this will help.
