How does one re-number an existing list starting with an ARBITRARY number?
In previous version of WORD, there was an explicit window of “Start with...”
There is no such option in WORD 2007. In Home --> Paragraph --> Numbering,
all lists start with 1.
Thank you for your help. |

Thank you Pam,
I know about the right-click option and I tried to use it. There is a
“small” problem – it DOES NOT WORK on existing lists as it should have.
You can set the number of the first item on the list to an arbitrary n but
you cannot get the rest of the list to follow with (n+1), (n+2),,,,
This is one of many examples where MS destroyed something that worked fine
in previous versions.

Thank you Pam,
The feature indeed works in some, BUT NOT ALL, instances of interest. E.g.,
it does not facilitate continuous numbering when a list is occasionally
interrupted with un-numbered paragraphs. (Such lists were feasible with WORD
2000.)
The list numbering feature in WORD 2007 is definitely much more cumbersome
and MUCH LESS USEFUL than in WORD 2000. WORD 2007 was supposed to be superior
to previous versions, wasn’t it..?

Works fine for me with a list that is interrupted with an un-numbered
paragraph
1 text
2 test
text
3 text
then if I right click on the first paragraph and via the Set numbering value
item I change the starting number to 2, I get
2 text
3 text
text
4 text
In that aspect, I think that the numbering in 2007 is actually easier that
with earlier versions.

I'm sorry to be cranky, but I can't make this feature work at all. When I
right click on the first number in a list, the Set Numbering Value item is
grayed out ... what do I do?
Thanks,
Angelia
