I am using Word 2007. Section 28 has page number 2 and should be continuous
numbering. When I edit the headers, however, and click Previous, it goes from
section 28 back to section 25 and the other way from 25 to 28. The header
that restarts numbering seems to be between the two. However I cannot see it
to edit it since it is skipped.
If I select show codes and go to section 28, then backspace past the section
break next page, and then edit the headers, it again puts me into section 25.
Thanks for any help,
Dale
In case it helps, the sequence I have is looking at show codes is
Section 24--Section Break Next Page
Section 25--Section Break Continuous
Double-columns set for this section
Column Break
Section Break Continuous--I think, it will not allow me to read it
Section Break Next Page
Section 28 |

To access the numbering in sections that occur in the middle of a page,
place the insertion point in the "landlocked" section and use Insert | Page
Number | Format Page Numbers to change to "Continue from previous section."

I tried the suggestion, but it didn't work. I'll see if I can explain what
happened in a way that makes sense.
The last section of the document shows page #2 (it should show 53) and it is
set to continue numbering. So I moved the cursor backwards past the Section
Break Next Page. I did what you said and it showed continuous numbering. So I
moved the cursor back past the Section Break Continuous and did it again.
Same result. So I moved the cursor back past the column break and did it
again. Same result. So I moved the cursor back past the Section Break
Continuous and did it again. Same result. So I moved the cursor back past the
Section Break Next Page and did it again. Same result. At this point, though,
I am now on page 51.
Is there a way I can see the section number without going into Insert
Header? Perhaps there is a section that is not showing for some reason?

Whenever you move the insertion point, you should see the section number in
the status bar provided you have that option enabled. If not, right-click on
the status bar and add it.

I should also have added that you can also see the page number on the status
bar, and this should tell you when you've hit the section where the restart
occurs.

Suzanne,
Thank you. That simplifies things. So here's what's happening.
Section 28 is the last section in the document and it is numbered Page 2. I
move the cursor to the beginning of section 28. I do Insert | Page Number |
Format Page Numbers and it shows Continue from Previous Section. Just to be
sure, I set it to start at 1, close the dialog box, then do the process again
to reset it to Continue from Previous Section.
Now I move my cursor back one position which takes me before the Section
Break Next Page. Now I am in Section 27, which shows Page Number 52. (It too
is set to continue from previous section). This has therefore become even
more baffling.

Well, there's clearly something very bizarre going on here. Can you send me
the document (or at least the part of it that's misbehaving? Perhaps it's
something easily sorted out.

Suzanne,
I'd certainly appreciate your taking a look at it. How do I send it to you?
