For reasons unknown (probably user error) MS Word 2003 started using
the French Spelling and Grammar dictionary. All of the spelling
errors and grammer suggestions are based on the French dictionary.
How can I change this back? The language settings in the control
panel are set to English but when you open spellcheck in MS word, it
has SPELLING & GRAMMER: French France in hte title bar.
Thanks

Open a Word document in which this problem occurs. Press Ctrl+A
to select all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set
Language | <choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK. Then press F7 to rerun spelling and grammar checks.

Excellent,
Thank you
For a while I thought I was going to have to learn French! I can
barely speak English.

Why does this occur? It seemd that it set itself. I did not reset this
option. IS there a bug/worm/virsus that can cause this?

It can happen if you have automatic language detection
turned on:
Tools > Language > Set language > Detect language
automatically

Existing docs may be set in defaulkt language. That's why the language
while checking may constantly jump back to default, instead of staying
in the language of your choice.
Select all text, then change the language setting. then check doc
again.
