I have set up an email address for my 7 year old to communicate with her
grandparents and a couple of friends. I want to protect her from receiving
any other emails that are not coming from individuals that I approve of
first. How can I do so in Outlook 2007?

look at the junk email options - tools, options, junk email button, safe
senders list. limit it to the names in the address book. Alternately, you
could create a rule to delete all mail except that from people in the
address book.

Unfortunately Outlook does not have the sort of rule that you are looking
for - outlook EXPRESS does.

I didn't think that option is in Outlook - it certainly is in Outlook
EXPRESS but I can't find that option in any of the rules functions in
2007....

"sender is in specified address book" is one of the options towards the
lower end of the conditions and exceptions list - going back at least 2
versions. Unlike in OE, they will be downloaded and processed - only OE can
delete off the server without downloading.

But that doesn't help the OP - the OP wants to delete emails that are NOT in
the specified addressbook, which is something (AFAIK) that Outlook has never
been able to do...

Outlook can do it - you write a rule that says delete all email EXCEPT from
people in the address book. Alternately, if you don't like using exceptions,
create two rules - first is mail from people in address book, do something
(can be flag, add category, move to another folder or even just move to
Inbox) then add a stop processing to the rule. Second rule is delete all
messages. If mom or dad wants to check out the messages, the second rule can
move the messages to a folder instead of deleting them. (This allows for
safe senders who aren't yet in the address book.)

Ah. Thanks for that - not something that's easily seen I think!
