| I want to add a second set of comments to a document in response to someone
else's. I don't want to delete my first set. I want the second set in a new
color with new numbering. Anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?

Yes, by changing your user name in Office Button | Word Options |
Popular tab or in Tools | Options | General tab before you make the
second set of comments. Even a slight change will do (e.g., add an
underscore character).

I believe that just commenting on text in an existing comment should work for
you.

If the first commentator added the comments on their own computer (or
logged into the same computer under a different user profile) and sent
the document to you, their comments will automatically appear in a
different color from yours. Usually, you'll see yours in red and
theirs in blue; they'll see theirs in red and yours in blue. (And a
third commentator will be a different color, etc.)

In the options dialog, change your user name (for example, add a digit to
the end). Word will see your new comments as coming from a different user.
