Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>docmanagement (more info?)

I haven't opened this document for a week or so but never "locked" it. I'm
trying to simply continue writing a piece and the text at the bottom left
reads "that modification is not allowed because the selection is locked".
What does this mean, why is this happening and how do I unlock these things?
Annoying all the way around. Thanks for any help.
