Hi,
I have terminal server with Office 2003 SP2 installed. All users except one
can use Outlook and Word, but on one user account can't setup Word as e-mail
editor in Outlook. There is an error:
Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is
unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The
Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead.
I tried:
- setup this user as power user or local admin
- Detect and repair Word
...but there is always the same error. How can I resolve this issue?
Thnx. |

Try opening Outlook and under the HELP menu, select the Repair option. Then
find email.dot and rename it email.bad. Test again.

Didn't help.
That is virtual machine with 3-4 programs installed, so I reinstall it
completely (grab template OS installation and install from the scratch.). |

I have the same problem on two different computers.
On both of them, I just allowed Microsoft Update to download and
install a bunch of new updates, so I suspect a problem with the
updates. <sigh>
I tried the above advice on both of them. It didn't help either one
of them.
I am so tired of Microsoft causing problems with updates....

That may be a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word
has been running when updates are installed.
Symptoms of Data Key corruption may include:
. The mouse does not work when you use Word.
. You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
. You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
. Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
. Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
. Word crashes when you save a document.
. Word crashes when you close a document.
See MSKB 940791 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940791 and click on the FIX
button.
