In Word 2007, frequently when a document is opened it takes a long time to
do so, and there is a message that the document is being scanned for
viruses! Why would a file being opened from inside the same computer need
to be scanned?

In any case, I cannot find in Help anything about a virus scan inside Word.
How do I turn off this wonderful feature?

Thanks.

Word is not doing the virus scan. Your antivirus program is and that's why
there was nothing in Word's Help file - but I am glad to read that you tried
looking the info up first.

You need to check your settings on your antivirus program. It's in there.

Thanks. I see. It's not Microsoft Office Word 2007 that is doing this
wonderful thing. It is Microsoft Windows Vista that is doing this wonderful
thing.

Vista is designed as though it were meant for use in a top secret section of
the Defense Department, will its constant double checks on every little
change that you make.

No, Vista is not scanning either. It is the ANti Virus utility.

But the owner of the computer did not install any anti-virus utility, so it
must have come with Windows Vista. Well, maybe it was installed by Compaq
and has nothing to do with Windows Vista...

New computers come with something installed. I think my HP had Symantec. I
dumped it immediately and installed AVG.

Yep, This is so irritating It's Not windows Vista doing the virus scan at all. I have Office 2007 installed on my vista and my XP computers, and on both I have AVG installed. with Office 2003 it was ok, because I could turn off automatic virus scanning on opening a document, but with office 2007 it searches for a virus scanner, and does not recognise AVG so it takes about 10 minutes every time I open a document to search for a non-existant virus scanner, but the worst thing is, unline office 2003 I can't find how to turn this off. The online database has nothing to do with this, the entire help and options centre has nothing to do with this, and I am unable to turn off this virus scanner. Any Solutions?
