Hi all,

I have about 50 PCs all with XP SP2, Office2K3 SP2. We created a gaggle of
custom templates for use in our company. We just discovered that spell
checking doesn't work for these templates. Symptoms:

1. I open the 'quote.dot' template directly, spell checking doesn't work.
2. I open the 'quote.dot' (forcing a new document based on that template to
open), spell check doesn't work.
3. In both cases above, I copy and paste the content as formatted and
unformatted text into a new document, spell check doesn't work.
4. Documents created off 'normal.dot' spell check just fine.

I've tried setting Language multiple times (Tools-->Language-->Set Language:
English+unchecking both boxes) to no avail.

Help!! I have some pretty bad spellers around here and they need as much
help as possible!

TIA....

Hi MeTed,

Have you worked through the article on language formatting and spell checking
in the "Tips" section of my website? That should walk you through how Word
handles this, and may show where the disconnect is occurring.

My best guess would be that you've specified a different language than the
Windows default, and Windows is overriding the language (on the empty
document). If you enter some text in the template (or a document), select it,
apply the language you want to use, then press F7 does spell check work?
