If the pictures change, but the file names stay the same, you could link
to the pictures. Otherwise, you will need to re-insert them every time.
However, this can be made to be pretty easy. Check out this entry from
the PPT FAQ:

BATCH IMPORT images into PowerPoint

There are lots of them, but if you have Windows XP you can put the images in a
folder, browse to the folder, right click on one of the images and choose Open
With, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer then press F11 to start the slide show.

Press ESC to stop the show.

hey steve,

i know the Windows based solution..i try to explain you my projekt.

I need a Possibility to view a slideshow that shows automaticly pictures
from a directory.
So my idea was that after the pc start's (Win XP) i start with a whs (
windows host script ) a Powerpoint presentation. And that presentation read
a directory and view all jpg's that was inside there. The pictures must be
once on the day updated. Another reasen why i desided for Powerpoint was
that i need two presentation on two screens but on one client.

....sorry for my english but i'm hope that you understand what i mean

greets

Mike!

Well, given all that, it sounds as if PPT might just be easiest.

Use Shyam's Image Importer Wizard to get the images into PPT with an option
to insert the images as links. http://skp.mvps.org/iiw.htm

Or insert the images manually, since linking means you really should only
have to do it once. Use Insert/Picture/From File, and then down by the
Insert button click on the little downward-pointing arrow and select "Link
to File."

A PowerPoint addin might be easier.

If the addin has an Auto_Open routine, that runs when PowerPoint starts and the
addin loads.

The Auto_Open could call another subroutine that does something like:

Open your blank presentation
Import all of the pictures in a certain directory
Start the show

An event fires each time the slide show goes to a new slide; at that time, you
could check the time; if it's, say, 03:00 then you do the update, otherwise
keep on showing the presentation.

The update deletes all the slides in the show then adds new ones, one for each
image in the directory.

I think most of the routines you'd need to get started on this are in the
Programming section of the PPT FAQ (http://www.pptfaq.com)
