Quite suddenly my thesaurus has stopped coming up within Word within Office
2003. It was working one day, now it's not. I do not believe that I did
anything unusual. I am using a Dell Dimension 2400, with Windows XP. It is
still listed in the Spelling and Grammar Menu, but when I click on it, it
won't come up. Suggestions anyone?

Can you be more specific what you mean with "Spelling and Grammar menu"? There
is no such menu in the default Word installation. Do you actually see such a
MENU on your machine?

If you select a word in a document, then press Shift+F7, what happens?

Sorry, my fault. It's under Tools>Language, and it is still there. When I do
the Shift command, nothing happens. I tried that right away also. Thanks. Eric

Well, that takes care of the "easy" answer Smile (A missing macro.)

so it's on to cross-your-fingers and a list of trouble-shooting questions

1. Does Spell check still work? If that also isn't working, check with which
language the text is formatted.

2. If spell check is working, perhaps the thesaurus has become damaged (even
though you're not getting an error message). Try removing then re-installing the
thesaurus (START/Control Panel/Add remove software, select Office 2003 (or Word
2003 if you have it as standalone), the option to CHANGE the program. Drill down
under the office tools (or shared office stuff) to find the proofing tools, and
under the proofing tools, select the Thesaurus to not be available. Let Setup
finish. Then go back through the same procedure, this time setting the Thesaurus
to "run from my computer".)
