Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>general (more info?)

When I connect to my Lenovo laptop using a port replicator, there is no text
cursor in Word and Outlook. The blinking vertical bar that is supposed to
show the text position is missing or invisible.

I can see what I type, and I can navigate through text with the arrow
buttons, but the text position indicator is not there, so I don't know where
I am in the document until I start typing. It is very frustrating to
navigate through a document without the text cursor.

If I disconnect from the port replicator, and use the laptop keyboard and
screen, the cursor is there, blinking happily away. Plug back into the port
replicator and it vanishes.

The port replicator is basically a thin client, linking to the laptop as if
it were a terminal server, so I believe this may be related to KB873418 which
says that cursor blinking is disabled in Terminal Services.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Am having this exact problem with same Lenovo notebook and port replicator. I don't know if it's a software or a hardware/firmware issue specific to Lenovo although I'm guessing the latter. It is very frustrating, indeed. --sw

I am having the same problem with Word 2007. I installed the port
replicator on Monday, 11/2/09, but the cursor started not showing up on
the external monitor on Friday, 11/6/09. It shows up on the laptop
screen, even though it doesn't show up on the external monitor.

I have a Lenovo USB Port Replicator with Digital Video (Lenovo part
number: 45K1610). If you don't mind my asking, what manufacturer and
model of port replicator do you all have?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
