For years, I have always used the tab key when doing outline work to indent a level and shift+tab to outdent.
This stopped working for me in the last 2 weeks and I am not sure why. I looked at ShaunKelly's web page and its not quite the same problem I have. It works on all my other computers, just not the one I use most. I have even repaired word, uninstalled word, and uninstalled all of office, but I am still having the problem.

I am using Office 2003.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

This problem started for me sometime last week. Was there a recent "patch" that "fixed" (broke) this feature?

that could be a possibility, but I would have thought that uninstalling and reinstalling, then not doing any updates would have aleviated the problem.

Is that what you did??? You must really love that tab!

In all seriousness, if it's not Word/Office, then what else could it be? Windows?

yeah, I am not quite to the point of reinstalling windows just to solve this problem, but I do probably 30 outline style documents per week, so it saves unbelieveable time to have the ability to hit tab or shift tab instead of takin my hand off the keyboard going to the mouse making one small click, then back to the keyboard.

cheers

Solution Found!!!!

its under tools>auto correct options>auto format as you type> set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspace."

Awesome - thanks! I just realized I'd turned off that option somewhere along the way, when it was doing that in other contexts I didn't like.
