In some aspects, spell check seems to operate normally. As I type, it underlines misspellings in red and bad grammar in green as expected. The problem occurs when I start the spell/grammar check.

It jumps to the first misspelled word and even lists suggestions below. Immediately the misspelled word in the upper box goes from highlighted red to regular black text. I am unable to select any of the suggested words. Instead of the first button being Ignore Once, it reads Undo Edit (pressing that does nothing). Ignore All and Add to Dictionary are both grayed out. Selecting Change tells me that I have chose a word not found in the dictionaries.

I confirmed that my default language is English US and the two checkboxes in the language dialog box are not checked. I have uninstalled/reinstalled many times. I've also completely reformated my machine to no avail.

I appreciate greatly any advice! Smile

Hi. I just encountered the same problem and found this thread through a search.

I'm using Word 2007 and Vista Home Premium on a laptop. Very unusual behavior.

I also have Word 2007 installed on an XP desktop and a second XP laptop and this only happens under Vista. I checked that the spell check options on the Vista install was the same as the XP installs, and they are.

Hard to believe this is a bug, since spellcheck is such a basic function. But there it is. Sad

Will keep searching and will post an update it I find anything.
