Hello,

Config of the machine:
XP SP2 with Office 2003 SP2

The spellcheck option "Detect language automatically" isn't working anymore.
I checked the option Tools\Language\Set Language\Detect Language
Automatically.

I selected all text and unchecked and rechecked the option, same problem.

Created a new document.
Deleted the normal.dot in the profile.
Still the same problem.

Proofing tools are installed for different languages.
Default language is set to English.

Anyone an idea?

Thanks,

Can you explain how you expect it to work? I get the feeling you're looking
for something it wasn't designed to do.

This option should recognize a language, and apply it to the current
paragraph (only), as you type. It doesn't analyse a document at a later point
and change the language formatting.

Hi,

What you discribe is correct.
When I open a document and start typing for example in French.
Tha spellcheck is not recognising the language.
He underlines everything in red.

Normally with the option set to detect the language, word should recognise
the language and set it to French.
This is not happening.

Thanks for your help,

Greg

Sometimes, the automatic detection won't kick in until you press ENTER the
first time.

You do have French set as an "active language" in the Microsoft Office
language tools (in Start/Programs/Microsoft Office)?

No, the language is set to English UK by default.
There are quite a few languages installed on the machine.
But none is detected automatically.
I even wrote a half page with many enters to check, but I'm unable to get it
working.

Thanks for your help,

Greg
