When I spell check documents I usually get words highlighted in red that
Word thinks are wrong, and grammar and other suggestions in green. But for
some documents the badly spelt words come up in black and not red. What is
the reason?

On the same machine? Weird. I can think of no explanation...

If it were a different machine, then I'd say that there was either a problem
with the graphics card OR the Registry entry that controls the color
displayed had been changed.

Again, here, the only thing I can imagine is that the document was originally
written on a system, or foramtted with a language, that Word isn't
recognizing the same as it would its own language formatting.
