Spell Checker Glitch

I have set default configuration for Word (ver 2003, running on Windows XP -
For Home) to display in Print Layout view. Recently, whenever I run Spell
Check my document will change to "Normal" view and I have to switch back to
Print Layout view.

The only change that I KNOW I have made is downloading and installing the
most recent Windows upgrade files that MicroSoft keeps offering every time I
log onto the Internet.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to fix it; and if
so, how?

I'd suspect some kind of macro...

If you hold down CTRL to boot Word in Safe Mode, then type some text in the new
document and run spell check, does the same behavior continue to occur?
