Spell Checker in my Office 2007 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
wouldn't work. When I opened a file that has spelling errors, I could see the
red squiggly underline very briefly under the misspelled words, but that
underline disappears quickly. When I ran Spell Checker, it erroneously said
there were no errors. The Grammar Checker (green squiggly) worked fine. All
my proofing settings seemed to be OK, my language was set properly, and my
registry had no Override key for spelling.
I had a pre-beta version of Office 2010 installed on the same PC, and its
Spell Checker worked fine. MVP Suzanne Barnhill suggested that having the two
different versions of Office installed side by side might cause a conflict
with the proofing tools. Rack one up for Suzanne -- I uninstalled Office 2010
and Spell Checker now runs fine in Office 2007.
Who knows whether MS will remedy this situation in the upcoming Office 2010
beta or in the final release. So heads up to anyone who would like to retain
2007 when installing 2010 on the same machine. (I don't know whether or how
throwing Office 2003 into the mix, such as a 2003/2010 combo or even a
2003/2007 combo, would affect this issue.)
Comments from anyone who can shed more light on this would be appreciated. |

I have all three -- Word 2003, 2007, and beta 2010 -- running
side-by-side here. The spell checker works fine in all of them. I
think your problem was just with the pre-beta.

Hello,
I am suddenly having the same issue, EXCEPT its not even underlining the obvious errors.
I ran SpCk in Outlook and it found 1 error (only) then said it was done. Seeing an obvious error, I tried selecting it specifically, but it still reported no errors. I purposely missed spelled a word, and still no response.
I copied the text into Word and got the same clean bill; however, running that same word in Thesaurus, I was offered the corrected spelling.
I found older articles which included disabling/enabling add-ins (couldn't follow that one w/version) and a registry "fix" which I tried, but didn't work.
Any other ideas??
Thanks in advance... SPELL CHECK IMPORTANT |

Thanks to contributor... "DaveEllisInNY"
FYI:
Under Set Language there is an elusive "Do Not Check Spelling" box that overrides any DO check spelling you might set...
I am using Office 2007/Windows 7 Pro. Honestly I don't know how [or when] this box could have been selected since it suddenly stopped working, almost mid stream. Besides, since installation, I've only had the need for the one default language and on no occasion visited the Set Language area at all...?
MS update prehaps???
Oh well, IF it just stops, try restarting with this before messing with the registry |
