My document contains many misspelled words. But, when I click TOOLS/SPELLING
AND GRAMMAR, it says "The spelling check is complete".

How do I get the application to find the spelling errors?

Press Ctrl+A to select everything, then choose Tools - Language - Set
Language. I'm forgetting the exact commands for Word 2000, but either the
document is set to No Proofing, in which case you need to reset it to your
language (e.g., English US), or it's set to Do Not Check..., in which case
you need to clear that checkbox.

I did what you suggested (in Word 2000, there's no NO PROOFING selection but
I did clear the DO NOT CHECK SPELLING AND GRAMMAR box).

I then re-ran the spell-check but it still found no errors (I again got the
SPELLING CHECK IS COMPLETE message).

Hmmm... just to be sure, you did select everything before clearing the Do
Not Check... box -- right?

Also, you did make sure that the correct language (i.e., one corresponding
to proofing tools installed on your computer) is selected?
