Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>printing (more info?)

Hi,

I'm running Outlook 2003 with an Exchange Server 2003 backend and one of my
user's came to me with a problem printing tasks. When I looked into it I
discovered that I am not able to select different printers when trying to
print email, calendar items or tasks. No matter which printer I select it
always goes to my Windows default printer. That is with the exception of
the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer, that seems to work.

Has anyone seen this issue before? How can I go about trouble shooting it?

Thanks in advance,
Linn

Other printers cannot be selected at all, or they can be selected, but the
section isn't retained and the Windows default printer is used instead? Do
you have other Office 2003 applications? If so, do they exhibit the same
problem, or do they work normally?

Hal

We use Office 2003 Standard and I have not seen this happen with Word or
Excel. I can select different printers from the drop down list in Outlook
but the job always comes out the Windows default printer. No error messages
or anything. When I'm looking at a calendar item, for example, and I select
File | Print, the printer name drop-down list is initially empty.

We are also using a Java application that has the same issue, it's a real
new product and has lots of bugs so I always assumed it was the applications
problem. Now I'm beginning to suspect otherwise.

Thanks,
Linn

I realize the solution may have been found long ago, but for those coming across this post for the first time may find this useful.

A solution for the outlook problem can be found at

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222320

The new Java application may be relying on the same printing dialog box used in outlook.

Hope this helps!
