Is there an easy way to *remove* a word from my UK English dictionary,
so a perfectly valid word starts appearing as a spelling error?

The word in question is "poser" as in "You'll need a bigger poser supply
in your PC", or "To turn the system on, briefly press the poser button".

You can't actually remove words, but you can force Word to flag them as
errors by creating an exclusion dictionary. If you're using Word 2007, look
for "exclusion dictionary" in the Help system. If you're using Word 2003,
look for "exclude dictionary" in the Help system.

G'Day Steve,

It might be simpler to create an AutoCorrect entry that replaces 'poser'
with 'power' ...

[Tools>AutoCorrect options ...
Replace: poser With: power
Click 'Add'
Click 'OK']

When you type the Space after 'poser' it will change to 'power'.

If you really wanted 'poser', type CTRL+Z (Undo) after it changes (to
change it back).

Thanks - that was just what I was looking for. It took me a couple of
guesses before I got the filename right (I have English (UK)).

Wow! One question and *two* excellent answers! I'm having a good day
indeed. I plan on using both of them.

I've excluded the word "poser" from my dictionary, so it now comes up as
a spelling mistake (when was the last time you needed the word "poser"
in mostly business documentation?)

And now I have the ability to auto-correct role to rôle. I'm the sort of
pedant (one of Lynne Truss's "sticklers") who likes to put all of the
correct accents on such words. This will keep me happy for hours (quite
literally) priming my dictionary with accented words.

Thanks!

Information is power!

Always glad to help.

Cheers,
