I would prefer the Canadian English only. Oh and I forgot to mention I am
using word 2000.

That's OK What little expertise I have is in Word 2000. I'll go and
experiment now...
Ok. Go into the document. Select Edit | Select All. Then Try Tools | Set
Language |, you can scroll down to English (Canada) and positively select
it. That should do it

I've tried that but it still won't let me disable the US English dictionary
so it checks both forms of English. Not a huge deal but I like all the extra

Oh sorry. That goes beyond my knowledge but I'm sure there's a simple
solution and someone on here will have it. It's a darned good newsgroup.

G'Day Medic,
There is a thing you cannot control - other peoples documents ...
The Language is a property of the text - if I write a document in English
that has parts in Italian and French, then I can Set Language for each
part:
English (US)
English (Australian)
French
Italian
and spell-check as appropriate.
If I send the document to you, then those are the settings YOU get.
If you do any copying/pasting from other document (or often from
web pages) then the 'Language' is carried with the pasted text and
may not match your 'own' default setting.
There is, however, one small thing that might help:
Tools>Set Language
'Detect language automatically' UNCHECK the box.

Regards,
Pat Garard
Melbourne, Australia
