Page Numbering with (x of y) format using multiple sections

Hello all,

I am having trouble numbering pages with a (X of Y) format across mutiple sections with much success. so far i have three sections

Section 1
a title page and a reference page with no numbering (which i want)

Section 2
After section 1 i have start a new numbering scheme using the (x of y) format so far i have been successful in starting a new numbering count and matching the count to the number of pages in that section however i need to insert a new page in the middle as iam required to change the layout of a page from portrait to landscape. this is where my problem occurs i want to obtain the same number in the section part of my document in the third section. but i am only able to achive

section 1
no number required.
section 2
page 1 of 2
page 2 of 2
section 3
page 3 of 1
page 4 of 2

would anybody be able to direct me in the correct direction.
