I have Outlook 2007 on my personal computer, and my company computer has
2002. I need to transfer pst files to the 2002 program, followed direction
from Article ID 291627 on how to save the .pst into format compatible with
older versions, but it still keeps telling me (2002) the file is not
compatible. Will Outlook 2002 accept .pst files from 2007 or am I just
wasting my time?

You should be able to use the Outlook 97-2002 Personal Storage Table (PST)
between both. Rather than try creating a new PST file in 2007, create a NEW
PST file in 2002 and open that in 2007. Copy items into that new PST and
take it back to work.
