This has been bugging the heck out of me since I installed Outlook 2007 on my new Dell Inspiron 9400 with Windows Vista Business. The way I got my contacts into my Outlook was through my Pocket PC and the new Windows Vista sync program which is already part of the system. It seemed to sync everything fine. My email address and contacts’ info appear to be in the right places. The problem is with the auto-generate feature (not sure if that is the name of the function). It's when you type a name in TO: field and tab out, a few seconds later below the name a red squiggly line appears. You right click that name and a drop down appears with a list of possible names and corresponding email matches. I then choose the match and it plugs that name and address in the TO: field just the way it did in Outlook 2003. Seems to work so far. The name and email then appears like this -> (I obviously changed the name for confidentiality) David Name(Dname@address.Com). If I double left click on the name/email address in the TO field, then the contact in Outlook opens, and again appears to be the valid contact with everything in proper place. Then I send the email. Then the crazy thing starts to happen; it gets stuck in the perpetual Outbox frenzy where it does a send/receive process 10's or 100's of times, I've seen 800+ times and my processor light is just revving constantly. Then I try to stop it by going to the outbox and double click the email but it says it cannot open because its being sent. So basically, I have to shut down Outlook to stop the process and restart and catch it before it tries to send/receive again. I then delete it from the outbox.

Here are some interesting clues I've gathered. One time I sent an email to two people, one with a fully typed out email and also to the auto-generated name. Again, stuck in the endless Outbox frenzy. The one person got it who’s email address I typed out. He replied to all. The email that he sent to both me and David then got bounced back to him because David’s email was wrong. That email appeared in my Outlook 2007 inbox TO: field looking like this -> "David Name (DName@Address.Com)"@alamode.com and then below in the reply text it appears that I had sent it to "David Name\(DName@Address.Com\)"; This is really strange because "@alamode.com” is my SMTP and POP3 server and has nothing to do with David's email address and in the reply area I had never typed that email with back slashes in that format and it yet it appeared to be correct from the auto-generate name just the way it was in Outlook 2003 when it worked. So then I check my web based email to see how it appears in my inbox there. Although the web based client's format doesn’t not show who else it was sent to, I does show in the reply text below who I send it to and that appears like it did in my inbox reply like this -> "David Name \(DName@Address.Com\)";

So please, does anyone know what's going on here? Hopefully this is a thorough enough explanation. I called Ala Mode and they're system is working fine and did great with Outlook 2003 and from their web based system. They say it's the email Client meaning Outlook 2007 that is producing the incorrect address or protocol or whatever. I really don't understand, but I sure hope someone knows what the cause is and if there is anything that I need to do to fix this bug. One thing I may try is import my other computers PST file. Maybe the Pocket PC sync of addresses caused the issue but it has always worked well with other computers with Outlook 2003 using Active Sync. Ugh! Thank you and hopefully an answer emerges!!
