I have this same problem. Running Outlook 2007 and images in e-mail messages do not display. Images are there as the placeholders in outlook can be copied and pasted into other applications where they display OK.
However, I've searched the registry from top to bottom and there is no key named BLOCKHTTPIMAGES ... anywhere.
I was wondering it I just added the key manually with the correct value if it might work?
Could someone post a screen shot of the key so I can see the parameters?
Many thanks |

In Windows XP(?)
Go to Start
Click "Run"
Type "Regedit"
Click the + by "H Key Current User”
Click the + by "Software"
Click the + by "Microsoft"
Click the + by "Office"
Click the + by 12.0
Click on Common
In the right-hand pane, you will see "BLOCKHTTPIMAGES"
Right-Click & select MODIFY
In box marked Value data, change to 0
Click OK
Problem solved!! |

Hi Steve and thanks for the reply.
My problem is that there is no such key in my system. I am quite familiar with Regedit and I have checked my registry carefully. What I was hoping to do was to manually add this key with the 0 value but to do that I need to see how the key is setup in the 3 columns (name, type and data). A screen shot of the registry in this area would be ideal but if not just a written out version should do.
I am puzzled by the lack of this key in my system since I have the identical problem as others have experienced. I am now running outlook in safe mode and I can now see the images but I would rather not wait for Microsoft to issue a fix. Could be a while.
Thanks

ihrytsak,
You're not the only one!
Unfortunately I don't have this option either.
Not sure what you're running but I'm running WinXP Pro & most other ppl related to this seem to have Vista so maybe that reg key is different in XP. I tried a search of the registry and didn't find the key anywhere else either.
I have tried all other options suggested also. The pics don't even show in Outlook safe mode for me.
I tried creating reg_sz and reg_dword values in the 'Common' folder however this did not help. |

Hi motnaf:
I'm running XP Pro as well (notebook). My wife runs Office 2007 on XP home without this problem.
Since Outlook behaves properly on my machine in safe mode, I thought that the problem must be related to an add-in on outlook or word but after disabling/uninstalling everything I could find the problem remains.
You say that on your system, the problem remains even in safe mode. Very strange. Just be sure you specify safe mode as /SAFE in capital letters and leave a space before the /. Lower case would not work on my machine either.
May I ask what your default browser is and are you running Snagit by any chance?

Capital or lower case doesn't seem to matter.
I've tried using both IE7 and Firefox 2.0.0.14 but no change.
Only just found out what Snagit is by googling it so no...I'm not using it
Will be trying other things like upgrading to firefox 3 and running from Windows safe mode to see if any help but am not getting my hopes up.
This problem has only started recently and I've not added or removed any software recently. I'm suspecting maybe a Windows update or some other update of some kind but who knows. I also removed all JAVA installs (not sure if this is used in email) but didn't help either.
Cheers |

| I found the answer. In OL 2007 go to the tools menu go down to Trust Center and click on it. When the window opens go down to Automatic Download and click on it then uncheck the box that says, "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML email or RSS items. |

Thanks charlesp however I've tried that amongst many other possibilities listed on the www and listed previously amongst the earlier posts in this thread.
I've also tried in Windows safe mode but this does not help either.
Don't think an upgraded web browser will work either as the same fault occurs with both IE and Firefox used. |

I also have just upgraded to OL 2007 and had the same problem with no picture display. But after a little research I found it's rather easy. This maybe too late but it may help someone else. On the menu click on TOOLS/TRUST CENTER/UNCHECK DONT DOWN LOAD PICTURES AUTOMATICALLY and you are finished. That should allow you to recieve pictures in your emails. rick244.DeleteThis@gmail.com |

Hi,
I am very sad because of Outlook
I access the Internet via proxy server with authentication and I have a limited amount of download that I can do.
I went through TOOLS/TRUST CENTER/UNCHECK DONT DOWN LOAD PICTURES AUTOMATICALLY
But as I entered the Trust Center, a window opened asking my username and password for the proxy server...
That means the images are being downloaded via HTTP and I have a limited account
When I entered my username and password, Outlook started to show the images.
What I want to know is:
Does outlook always download the images from Internet? Every time I open the e-mail the images are downloaded from Internet?
If thats true, than thats bad |

For those who are still having this issue where the previous registry and security fixes haven't help, there's one more really obscure issue that can cause this.
Outlook uses it's own temp folder for storing attachments and images. Once that gets a certain number of items in it, Outlook can't store anything else, so it doesn't download the items to display them. You need to clean it out.
First, make sure Outlook is closed.
Go to Start -> Run -> Type regedit and hit enter or click okay. In the registry editor, browse to HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security
There is a key there called OutlookSecureTempFolder. Doubleclick it to open it in a dialog box. Highlight everything in the Value data: field and press Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard.
Go to Start -> Run -> press Ctrl-V to paste the path in, then press enter or click ok. This should open explorer in the directory and show you a bunch of files (our users all seem to have near 1000 when this happens). Delete them ALL!!! They're all just copies of the attachments that Outlook already has saved, so you're not going to lose anything.
Restart Outlook and you should have images. |

This is really a great deal easier than you think, though it is hard to find the answer via google without a little searching...
This is NOT an installation issue or problem with Outlook 2007, Microsoft chose to have the image loading disabled by default for security reasons - though I have yet to have an image downloading in my email app ever cause a problem.
The setting you want to allow automatic download of all images in all emails is under
Tools...Trust Center...Automatic Download
not under Tools...Options as it was in other versions of Outlook. Hope that helps. |

I really hate to stir the dust on an old topic, but here is my relation to this very issue:
Windows 7 -- fresh install of Office 2007 (this is NOT an upgrade). I have been using Outlook 2007 flawlessly for a month now. NO new updates have been installed in a week and none are available, so this is NOT an "update" issue.
I have tried all solutions in this thread to no avail except the last one -- finding this "path" that the registry thinks is there, but isn't.
When I find the registry key for the OutlookSecureTempFolder key, I get the following path:
C:\Users\Christopher\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\Q05FIIPR\
However I can only get as far as:
C:\Users\Christopher\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\
Here, I can NOT see any folder called "Temporary Internet Files". I have "show hidden folders" selected (obviously or I would not have gotten that far since "apps" is a hidden folder). So I tried creating the folder, and I got the popup dialog that states "Do you want to merge this folder with the existing folder", so windows THINKS that the folder is there, but it isn't!!!
I am thinking this has to be my problem. If I can't see it, then obviously Outlook can't see it either!! I have even tried doing Start-->Run and pasting the path in and windows tells me it cannot find that folder.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Okay I managed to finally get the "Temporary Internet Files" folder to show using folder options (apparently it's considered a system folder with seperate setting). However I still cannot seem to find "...\Content.Outlook\Q05FIIPR\" and this time Google shows no one else having this issue except for general reference to the fact that Windows Explorer is incapable of seeing any folders in the Temporary Internet Files folder. I use CCleaner to keep my temp files clean -- could it have deleted this folder. thus disabling OE2k7 from being able to display pictures in emails?

Alright, for Windows 7 users with this problem. It took me a little while to fix this issue as well. First, make sure that under Tools > Trust Center > Automatic Downloads the box that says "Don't Download..." is unchecked.
Next, make a shortcut of Outlook on your desktop. Right click and go to Properties. Then go to the Compatibility Tab and check "Run this program as an administrator". Hit OK and run Outlook through this shortcut. Hope that works.
Note: You can pin this shortcut into the Taskbar if you'd like.
