Hi All
Word 2000, today's puzzle: When I edit a document that contains eg foreign
names, I frequently 'ignore' rather than 'add', so the custom dictionary
doesn't get changed. But when I've passed through the document once, it
seems that *sometimes* on the next F7 the system 'knows' I've ignored the
given words and now doesn't find them. That's not too puzzling, but there's
more! If I close down the whole lot, on opening up the next morning it
seems as though Word still 'knows' these ignored words. In other words
(pardon the unintentional pun) Word seems to have saved somewhere with the
document a list of ignored words. They are not in the custom.dic, so where
are these held, how can I get rid of them, or is there another explanation? |

Yes, Word stores them in the document
To get rid of them, you need to RECHECK the entire document. This button is in
Tools/Options/Spelling and Grammar

Of course it worked! The only chnage: On Word 2000 the button is actually
CHECK rathre than RECHECK.
This of course explains the question oft seen here: Why does my document
*sometimes* want to save on exit when I haven't changed anything? Answer:
if you have 'ignored' any spell suggestions it needs to save the
ignorements(!) with the document. This group has saved my sanity many times
over.
