I'm helping a faculty member with a font problem. The fonts that show up for
him in Word 2003 are jagged/aliased. He gets the same jagged text when he
composes emails (he uses Outlook 2003 which uses Word 2003 as the email
editor), but he gets the nice, readable, anti-aliased, soft-edged font when
he reads recieved emails. I can't find the setting anywhere to get rid of the
jagginess in Word. Help.

Please let us know the names of 9some of) the fonts that show in the
word list. Then, navigate to the Control Panel fonts list and let us
know if the same fonts are listed there.

There isn't a discrepancy. Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Galliard show
up in the program and in the control panel fonts area.

Does the font problem occur in other non word related application programs?
IF not, word uses a default template that may be the culprit. (Normal.dot)
Try renaming normal.dot to oldnormal.bak or some other name. Word will
recreate it on the next startup and revert to default behavior.
There are also some settings for word (I don't know where they are in 2003)
that were intended for use on a limited resolution display.
I'm not sure if they even show up in a user accessable menu or dropdown
option.
(Last time I fooled with them was word 95 or 98.)
It's also possible that a font substitution is taking place, usually due to
a bad or missing font.
